Summary

This English author is best known for coining the term "utopia" and writing a book of the same name that described communal ownership of land, the education of men and women alike, and religious toleration. A well-known figure in the Renaissance, Thomas More was also a statesman, lawyer, and social philosopher. Rich in historical context and insightful details about the times in which More lived, this biography is a clearly written account of the life of this influential author in 16th-century England, a man who opposed Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, incurred the wrath of King Henry VIII, and became a saint of the Roman Catholic Church some 400 years after his death.
