Summary

Praise for the previous edition:
"...[examines] issues germane to teens, offering timely information and dispelling common myths...excellent in the currency and quality of research presented, in the unbiased approach, and in the user-friendly format."—School Library Journal

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there were nearly 1.4 million violent crimes committed in the United States in 2008. Violence is the second leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 10 and 24. Recent incidents, such as the shootings at Virginia Tech University, highlight the need for teenagers and young adults to be aware of the consequences and issues surrounding violence.

The Truth About Violence, Second Edition offers authoritative information about the many aspects of this issue, while presenting the facts and dispelling the myths. Using personal testimonies, question-and-answer sections, and fact-filled sidebars to give a balanced perspective of the topic, this revised book encourages discussion among peers and helps teenagers cope with the gravity of violence.

New and revised entries include:

  • Alcohol and violence
  • Anger management
  • Fight-or-flight response
  • Hate crimes
  • Incarceration
  • Intermittent explosive disorder
  • Road rage
  • School violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Teens and violence.
